The Groundscape eXPerience Pavilion: an “urban folly” in the heart of Seoul

During the Seoul Biennale, Dominique Perrault and the SubLab of the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL) present the Groundscape eXPerience Pavilion with 60 university students from EPFL (Lausanne) and EWHA (Seoul, South Korea), The GSXP2 installation.

Inspired by minimalist artists such as Sol LeWitt, Carl André or Antony Gormley, the installation is a very large scale black steel grid wireframe (L 30 x 1 x 2 m) that scans through the metropolitan condition of the 2.7km long gallery. The structure reveals 28 enigmatic shapes that appear to the visitor as urban fossiles, 28 experiments that disclose the possibilities of underground design. The installation, in front of the Dongdaemem Design Plaza (Zaha Hadid), is part of the public space and will be open to visitors throughout the duration of the Biennale.
