HOSPITALITY
PR–354
Designed for the Habitat group in Barcelona, the Habitat Sky hotel draws on the two dimensions that define the Catalan metropolis: a clear horizontal grid inherited from the Cerdà plan and extending to the sea, and a strong vertical dynamic embodied by the Sagrada Familia, Jean Nouvel’s Agbar Tower, and the Tibidabo mountain overlooking the site.
PROGRAM
Habitat Sky is a hotel with 257 rooms and 12 suites, a swimming pool, a gym, a 300 m² restaurant, and a bar. The hotel also has a 1,150 m² conference center, administrative offices, and underground parking.

DESCRIPTION
It is this simple interplay of adjoining volumes that gives meaning to the building. It consists of a cube set within the horizontal plane of the city and a 30-story tower offering a new landmark 120 meters high. A 20-meter cantilever marks the entrance: on Diagonal Avenue, it appears as a signal identifying the hotel.
Placed behind the tower and topped with a terrace, the cube adjoins a square that opens onto the street. It is the juxtaposition of these boxes that determines the distribution of functions. While the rear volume houses the hotel’s communal services, the wide, shallow tower accommodates 257 rooms, each with an unobstructed view of the sea or mountains. The panorama is a key element of the program. Each room has been designed to draw the eye outward, as evidenced by the large interior windows that frame the view. This “large screen connected to the city and the landscape” is itself divided into panels of varying opacity and texture that cover the entire façade and bring it to life day and night.
