DESCRIPTION
Extending above the existing structure, a new triangular building houses the additional functions and facilities required for a modern city hall, while promoting the natural circulation of light and air. This new architectural landmark, which overlooks the existing building, minimizes the building’s footprint in order to free up large public spaces for citizens and offer two generous outdoor gardens: a wooded square on the south side and a mirrored square on the north side, evoking a sparkling water feature. The layout of the extension is simple and clear, with a south wing housing the City Council and a north wing housing the City Hall offices, organized around a double core ensuring efficient connections. Day and night, the Grand Roof unfolds like a true civic square, open to all the residents of Cheongju.
